OE6 - reply to wrong news server.....

it's a stone old problem at least for me! if u are subscribed to serveral
news servers and u reply to a message it frequently happens that the reply
shows the *default* news server instead of the server the message belongs
to. Is there a fix or are we OE users destined to die with that problem?

thx

I don't have that problem and I have two servers configured in OE and have
done no special configuring other than my ISP's server is configured as
default. As you can see, this message is being sent using msnews and the
news server that came up when I clicked on Reply to Group was msnews. If I
go to my ISP's server, only the ISP's server will be in the News Server
field.

Well, I have 4 news server here and it happens every now and then - why?
The problem is even more funny when u have same newsgroups on different
servers - then it becomes apparent that OE does not track which server the
NG is from.

Mine did back when I had news.individual.net and my ISP's. Maybe the trick
is to make your ISP's the default ...

My ISPs news server is always the default server. However, this does not
solve the problem!
I see this problem since *years* on different systems and many ISPs due
course - it just happens every now and then.

Are these cross posted messages? If so, your default server may not host
them all and if that's the case, you'll wind up with blank info in the
newsgroups block since your default server cannot resolve all of the
newsgroups as being hosted on that particular server.

good point, Jim! - never paid particular attention to this. I will see next
time it happens. However, this OE behaviour is not exactly smart. It should
keep the original server and just drop unavailable groups.

thx

Well, I can agree that the behaviour is a little odd, but there are lots and
lots of little problems with Outlook Express and some (like this one) just
are not high on the dev teams priority list to fix. So for now, all we can
do is live with it. Thanks for the feedback.

That can happen if you are using the Watched Conversation
feature and replying to a Watched message which is not on the
default account. In that case you can temporarily switch that
account to be the default account.

There are other problems associated with the Watched Conversation
feature too, especially if your download procedure uses either
the Synchronize Newsgroup or Synchronize Account commands.

Yeah, Rob, I think your hint is HOT! Like Jim already said MS sees this as a
minor issue and we OE user probably have to die with this f****** problem.
RIP
