Everytime I try to receive an attachment (generally just basic Word docs
that I know are virus clear) OE deletes them. I just get a message telling
me that OE has removed them and the attachment is greyed out - preventing
access. Please help!

Take a look at Tools/Security. If you haven't deleted the emails, you still
have your attachments.

Under Tools | Options | Security, make sure "do not allow attachments" is
unchecked.

Read the message again, OE has not deleted/removed the attachments, just
the access to them as a security measure. Margaret and Alias both told
you how to solve the problem.
You might want to prepare for spam also, it's not wise to post your real
email address in a newsgroup.
