Assistance please

XP2 OE6

Could you let me know what is the significance of a blue marking on the LHS
of the icon for a group. In my system this has appeared for the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general group in the msnews.microsoft.com
account.

Coincidently, or not, that group appears to have been reset in that all of
the watched messages have been 'unwatched'. and all the read messages
'unread'.

Thank you

A downward curved arrow?
That indicates that it is marked for download.

Frank

OK - thanks for reply - yes it is an arrow as you say (gosh I need new
glasses!).

But what does 'marked for download' mean vs not marked?

Also, any ideas on why the group appears to have been reset, when I haven't
initiated that - would take ages I imagine.

Thanks again.

From OE Help:

To download individual messages

You can specify that certain messages within a newsgroup be downloaded the
next time you connect to the Internet.

1.. While you are offline, select the previously downloaded message
headers that you want to specify for downloading the next time you connect.
Offline means that you are not connected to the Internet, or that you have
clicked Work Offline on the File menu.

2.. On the Tools menu, point to Mark for Offline, and then click Download
Message Later. Repeat these steps for each newsgroup whose messages you want
to read later.
3.. When you go online, on the Tools menu, click Synchronize All, and then
you can go offline to read your messages after they are downloaded.
Note

a.. You can display only the messages that you selected for offline
reading. After you download the messages for offline reading and disconnect
from the Internet, on the View menu, point to Current View, and then click
Show Downloaded Messages.

Hi there,

If you right-click on the newsgroup in question and select Synchronization
Settings, you'll see that one of them is selected. You've told OE to synch
those newsgroups when it checks for messages, so either the headers or the
messages will all be downloaded to your machine without you actually having
to log onto the server.

Thanks Margaret

Would you believe I'd had just worked that part out before having a bit of
lunch!

Do you think that explains why I have lost the 'marked for attention' (in
red) messages? It would have to be in the biggest ng I follow.

Bill
