Local Files on AOL Communicator to Outlook Express 6

I'm a new convert to Outlook Express. I have thousands of emails sorted and
filed in "local folders" on AOL Communicator. I know how to turn it into a
Zip file -- but is there a way I can install/download [sorry for lack of
technical terms!] those folders, the emails of which have the .eml suffix,
into my Outlook Express? If there is, I will be in heaven! :) Thanks in
advance.

See if this offers any help. If not, you can always copy the eml files to a
local folder on your hard drive, then open Outlook Express, create a user
created mail folder and drag/drop the eml files from the folder on your hard
drive to the local mail folder you created.

Hi, Jim, thank you,
I found that site at one point in my searching, but it doesn't really help
.... I literally have over ten thousand saved, sorted emails in this
multitude of local folders and sub-folders, so the thought of re-creating
even the folders, never mind one-by-one dropping in individual emails makes
me throw up my hands ;) But AOL Communicator is such an inferior program ...
now that I know I can use Outlook for my SBC mail as well as AOL -- I want
to switch.
At another point, when AOL Communicator stopped importing my SBC mail, I
went thru a bunch of fruitless tech calls, and then tried using Microsoft
Outlook 2003. What a nightmare. But during that time, I swear I found a web
reference that talked about dragging and dropping AOL Local Files into
Outlook Express .... Does it ring a bell??? I mean, it could have been done
en masse.
Thanks again, and if anyone has ideas -- please share.

Sure. Once you copy all the eml files to a local folder on your hard drive,
open that folder using Windows Explorer, click in the window side with the
files, then press Ctrl+A to highlight all of them, then drag/drop them into
a local mail folder (but please don't use the Inbox for this).

Sorry to be dense ... I have all these files stored in a folder called
"local" in my AOL Communicator Application Data. In that file are folders
with an .sbd suffix. When I open the folders, choosing Internet Explorer, I
get individual files all together as text files with the detail below ....
If I try to
drag and drop this file into a local Outlook folder, only the first message
gets copied. If I "select all" and drag and drop, a send email window is
opened, and all of the emails, with this kind of detail, is in it. What am I
doing wrong? Or, do I need to open and save each individual email, and then
drop them into the local OE folders I create? Which brings me to another
question -- where are the local folders stored for OE? Would it be possible
to drop my .sbd folders into an OE directory on my hard drive?
THANK YOU again for your help. Susan

Don't really know since it's been more than 10 years since I wasted my time
with anything that AOL puts out. If you're unable to copy the .sbd folder
to your hard drive, then I guess your only alternative might be to do them
one at a time. I thought you earlier posted that you had them stored as
..eml files. which can be simply dragged and dropped into a local mail
folder in Outlook Express.
For some help with AOL mail problems, the best I can suggest is to look at

Thanks, Jim, for your help. It appears to be impossible without doing saving
each individual message and then copying them over. I appreciate your follow
up.

Sorry, and I wish I could be more helpful, but I tend to avoid anything that
even hints of being provided by AOL coming within 100 yards of my computer.
