OE6 removed e-mails from some folders

Yesterday OE6 spontaneously removed emails that were
stored in several folders. Now these folders are empty
and display just one message: There no items in this
view. The selection of folders that were cleaned seems to
be random. I was not asked by OE6 for permission to do
this type of operation and yet it happened.
Why did OE6 do it without any reason?
Where are these e-mails?
How can I restore the missing e-mails in their
appropriate folders?
Thanks for any help.

1. I doubt if OE did it. Do you have an Anti-Virus set to scan email?
2 Try DBXtract or DBXpress to recover the messages.

Thanks.
All my incoming e-mails are scanned for all imaginable
viruses by my server and any suspicious items are
quarantined with the use of postini - a rather reliable
service. I do not recall any virus attack recently.
I was surprised with the random selection of the folders
that were cleaned.
I also checked the list of *.dbx files and found out that
they all seem to be non-empty. I did not know how to
check their content. Your suggestion to use
DBXtract/DBXpress is what I wanted to hear.
I will try asap.
