I want Outlook Express to start a dial up connection & send & receive ONLY
WHEN I REQUEST IT to do so.

I have tried changing my settings to get mail & seem to have only 2 options.
Either I get a pop up wanting to dial all of the time. even when I'm offline
or if I adjust the settings so as to have a connection only when I want but
then find that activating so that Outlook Express both start making the
connection & getting the mail nothing happens. What are the correct
settings to achieve this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Confused,

I can tell you what works for me.

In OE Tools, Options, Connection tab neither box is selected.
(Ask before... or Hang up...)

Under Internet Connection Settings click on the Change... button. There are
three radio button selections. Do not select either Never Dial... or Always
Dial..., but it is okay to select Always dial my default connection.

If the PC is on a network review your dial-up networking and network
settings for dialing permissions.

I (almost) always use a Dial-up Networking connection shortcut on the Quick
Launch toolbar, not Outlook Express to connect to the Internet. This offers
more control over how the connection is established.
