Can anyone pease explain why I am getting an extraordinary amount of
MAILER-DAEMON / Postmaster and Mail Delivery problem messages, all with my
email address preceeded by people/companies I do not know and have never sent
messages to.
I am with Demon and they have a 'spam' filtering system, I am running XP
also with AVG & Ad-Aware, these tell me I'm clear of any viruses etc, but I'm
now getting many daily messages telling me that my emails could not be
delivered when I did not send them in the first place.
Obviously me address is being used to generate these, but any suggestions on
how I can stop/cure this problem.

Grateful for any help, thanks

One of two things is happening:

1. Your computer is infected with a virus or spyware that is using your
computer to send out e-mail,
2. Your e-mail address fell into the hands of a spammer, who has forged the
headers of the e-mail they are sending out to make it look like it came from
your address.

Solutions:

1. Get the malware off your computer; otherwise:
2. Get a new e-mail address, because there's not a thing you can do,
realistically, to get a spammer from forging your address.

Thanks for that depressing news, I willtry again to see if I have any
virus/malware, but I think you could be right with the spammer problem.
I think I will see whether it dies down as to change the address which is
also business can only be the last resort.
Thanks again

Thanks for that piece of information.
It has only recently started happening, so maybe it will go in the near
future.
