Hotmail boxes got deleted and downloaded repeatly!

Hi,

I am using Hotmail Plus with OE6 SP2. At least once a day, all messages in
all Hotmail local boxes got deleted automatically, and then all messages
were re-downloaded after a while or several tries. It forced me to leave
almost nothing in my 2G hotmail boxes.

This problem has been very persistent. I have created a new Identity,
trying to solve this problem without success.

Anyone here ran into the same problem?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Nick

There is, in essence, no support for Hotmail access in OE, Nick. Nice, huh?

The problem is most likely on MSN/Hotmail servers' end. Understand that
what you see in OE only mirrors what's on the MSN/Hotmail servers. Your
messages may disappear periodically due to MSN/Hotmail's problems but they
do return. Only worry if they don't.

But while the hotmail boxes on OE deleting themselves, my hotmail boxes on
hotmail server were intact.

Am I the only one in the universe run into this problem?

The behavior is very infrequent but certainly not unknown, Nick.

Do you know any way to work around this problem? It has been very
annoying.

Thanks!

No, sorry. If the problem is, as it would seem, on MSN/Hotmail's end,
there's not much you can do.

That being said, your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the
default Main Identity. Try the account in a new Named Identity
(File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is well, import messages
from the old Identity's local folders (Don't bother with Hotmail messages)
before deleting it (File>Identities>Manage Identities).

General OE Caveats:

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
