Two Main Identities

When I switch Identities, I see two instances of Main Identity. I think
they are identical but I wonder if it's possible to get rid of one of them.
It irritates me just a little bit to see two of them.

Thanks,

Tom

Windows version?

Your post is not clear to me. Did you give the second identity the name
'Main Identity' when you created it?

Are you saying that when you Switch Identities, two instances of OE open and
the same identity is displayed in each?

Sorry, I didn't explain it better.

I am running WinXP Home with SP2 and OE6.

I actually have three identities and one is Main Identity, the second is
AQS, and the last one is Tom which I rarely use on that computer. When I
click on File/Swirch Identities, I see the following

AQS
Main Identity
Main Identity
Tom

If I switch between Main and AQS, I see OE close and then reopen. If I
switch from one Main to the other Main, nothing really happens. They appear
to be the same. I'd just like to get rid of the duplicate tag.

Thanks,

Tom

START | Run
type in Regedit
and press ENTER

Press the + sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Press the + sign next to Identities
Click on each {USER_ID} string and note the Username value.
When you find Main Identity, double click on Username and rename it.

Thats all there is to it.

And if he finds two Username values named Main Identity...?

If they're different ID numbers, he should theoretically be able to change
one of them...at least that would be my guess.

Yes, but which is which?

Well right now they both seem to be the same for him anyway, so maybe it
doesn't matter. I'd back up my registry first!

change one of them. You shouldn't find two in the same {User_ID}

doesn't matter it's just a friendlly name for the Identity.

So in each of these 'Main Identities', OP first should look in Tools >
Options > Maintenance > Store Folder to find the {User_ID} for each

Doesn't make any difference. Just change the "friendly name" in the
Registry and that's all it needs since there will not be two accounts with
the same GUID (and the GUID will be displayed in the registry edit window).
Although he could check the StoreRoot location in the registry for each
listed main identity just to see if they share a common store folder.

Nope, just change it in the registry and it really doesn't matter what the
friendly name is, each has it's own {USER_ID} associated

They could probably change the name of one of them in File | Identities |
Manage Identities but if I recall correctly, it seems like there was a
problem doing that for someone so I just started telling people to do it
from the Registry instead. I'm thinking I tested that way back when in OE5
beta and found there would be a problem.
