I have some newsgroups that show unread messages in the folder list. when I
go to the newsgroup I can't find any unread messages.

That doesn't help. If I leave the box unchecked it downloads all of the
messages in a group. I seleccted the option and entered 1000 and still don't
get the 30 messages that the folder says are unread.

And your Current View settings?

The number of unread newsgroup messages OE displays is only an estimate,
based on somewhat/sometimes inaccurate information provided by the
newsserver. Just run Catch Up on the group when you encounter this anomoly.

This a known bug when accessing server farms when one of the servers get out
of synch.

OE missed some headers and does not give them a second chance.
Try this.

1. Go offline (file -> select work offline).
2. Select anything, but not the newsgroup with the unread messages..
3. Go online (file -> deselect work offline).
4. Select the newsgroup, OE will now download the missing headers.

Works fine here.
