OE downloads the first file VERY SLOWLY, and then the next file VERY FAST

While downloading 2 large newsgroup files, OE downloads the first file VERY
SLOWLY, and then the next file VERY FAST.

It will continue in this manner - one SLOW, the next FAST.

I opened a new NEWS ACCOUNT and I get the same performance problem.

Using different newsreader has resolved the problem, and I get FAST
downloads for every file, but I want to fix the OE problem.

Your suggestions are welcome.

What news server? What newsgroup? Are these binary files or small text
files? The size of the file has an awful lot of bearing on how quickly it
can be downloaded.

Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. No
one gets paid to help here, and the response rate from those that are helped
is less than 4-5%. If that were how medical advancements were made we would
all have died years ago. Thanks.

It happens in any newsgroup - and they are binary files, usually about 300K
size.

If I am downloading 5 files this is what happens to the download speeds:
File 1: FAST
File 2: SLOW
File 3: FAST
File 4: SLOW
File 5: FAST

So it alternates between FAST and SLOW download speeds. Interesting, NO?

It seems as though it would be a virus of sorts affecting OE?

And they are all on the same news server? It sounds strange but not
uncommon, particularly if they are different servers. Connection speeds can
vary depending on the number of users connected so your download speeds may
vary depending on time of day and how many others are also connected and
downloading info. I really think you're applying more importance to the
issue than it really deserves, but if you keep a record of the times and it
seems bothersome to you, then I'd suggest you contact the host provider of
the news server for assistance in resolving the issue. Good luck.
