Hi:

Is there anyway to establish Mail rules to Delete all email whose Sender's
have an outside U.S. email address?

Thanks

If you find a way? Let me know please, so that I can block all that do have
U.S. addresses. :-)

ColTom2,
The following rule should work, based on the address info, but it might not
be 100% effective. And be aware if the non foreign sender uses an US
address, be it real or fake, the message will come through.

Create the following rule in OE:
TOOLS> Message Rules> Mail Rules> New button>

Condition: Check the following.
When message arrives and the FROM: Line "Does Not Contain" (found under the
Options button). You will need to add the following "SUFFIXES" one at a
time.
..com
..net
..org
..gov

Action: Check the following.
1. Delete it.
2. Mark it as Read. (You may not want to do this action right away, so you
can see what messages are being deleted. So you can make adjustments to your
rules. Then you can add this action.)
3. Stop Processing More Rules. (Very Important you add this action)
4. Move this Rule to the Top of the Mail Rules list.

If you have friends or newsletters that don't use the above "suffixes",
You'll need to create a message rule for them, and place it before the above
rule you just created.

Hi:

I am using OE 6 version 6.00.2900.2180 and under Condition I find no "When
message arrives and the FROM: Line "Does Not Contain" (found under the
Options button). The only condition listed applicable the From line is
"Where the From line contains people". Neither does it give me an Options
Button etc.

In addition, it does not under Action give me the options of Mark it as
Read or Stop Processing more Rules. Apparently you have a different version
of OE than I have that allows you to apply the options you have listed. I
wish that I could apply what you have recommended as I feel that it would
stop a lot of the spam from overseas that I am receiving.

Thanks

Only after (1) entering some data into the blank 'contains people' box and
(2) clicking Add button will the Options button become available, Tom.

Then your current Identity is damaged; the default Main Identity is
especially prone to such corruption. Try one or more of your accounts in a
new Named Identity (File>Identities>Add new identity). Assuming all is
well, import messages from the old Identity before deleting it
(File>Identities>Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Hi Pa Bear:

I created a new Named identity and I still get the same items under
Condition and still cannot access "When message arrives and the FROM: Line
"Does Not Contain" (found under the Options button). I can now find the
Options button after doing what you indicated.

I still have not found a way to access "When message arrives and the FROM:
Line "Does Not Contain" as this is never listed under Condition, even after
establishing a new Identity.

Maybe I have missed something that you are trying to tell me? As for
avoiding corruption I am currently doing the items you recommended with the
exception of the AV.

Thanks

1. Check the "Where the From line contains..." box and click on 'contains
people'

2. Type something/anything into the upper box and press ADD button;

3. The OPTIONS button should now become both visible and clickable

Is it Norton AntiVirus? What happens if you *do* disable NAV's Email
Protection? Even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
</paste>
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2002111812533106

Furthermore, NAV 2004 and 2005 include Norton AntiSpam (NAS) which befouls
administering OE Message Rules. It may be interfering in your situation,
too.

Hi ColTom2, you do realise that even when you sort out, how to add the rule?
By the way, my email address is in the allowed list from RRR_News,
macknever@fsmail.net & I reside in the UK :-)

Is the address being spammed your @icqmail.com account?

The best recourse is to *ditch* the spammed address, get a new one, and do
not use it anywhere on the www. Only use for private mail.

Best of luck.

I can send you an invite to gmail if you want a new address?
Above address is live.
