Whatever newsgroup is set as DEFAULT is the only
one that I can post replies to. How do I fix that so
I can reply to all newsgroups?

You misunderstanding something. Outlook Express does not specify a default
newsgroup.

Are you confusing "news server" with newsgroups? To change the default
server, right click on it in the Folder List and select Set as Default.

Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. No
one gets paid to help here, and the response rate from those that are helped
is less than 4-5%. If that were how medical advancements were made we would
all have died years ago. Thanks.

As Jim said, no it doesn't. You are both mixing up news server and news
group.

A default news server (or account if you prefer) can be set as the default
in Tools/Accounts - News tab. You can change the default news server at
will, by right clicking the server in the Folder List at the left of the
screen and choosing "Set as Default." If you do this, each time you change
to reading groups on a different server, the problem with selecting groups
that are not hosted on a particular server should go away.

Oh, I see how to "fix" the problem. When I make a post, the top bar is
labeled "News Server". All I have to do is change it to the correct
server. OE used to magically change that to the news server I was
presently reading, but not any more. I wonder why. I guess the
particular designated news server makes no difference to this problem.

What is the purpose of a designated news server anyway?
Thanks,
Dick

It limits replies to ONLY those newsgroups hosted on the particular server.
Beyond that, it has no major purpose and can be a hindrance as you've
already found out. Thanks for the feedback.

This only happens to me when I'm replying to a Watched message. If that's
the case, it's a known problem (and has been for years).

YES! I'm usually replying to a watched message.
So it's Microsoft and not my computer setup.
Thanks,
Dick
