Comet Cursor

I have a family member who was complaining of not being able to type anything
in the search bar. When I checked the search bar I found that Comet Cursor
had hijacked the IEX search. I used Spy Sweeper to clean out Comet Cursor,
but now there is no search capability in IEX.
I attempted to update IEX, but it will not update because the updater sees
the version as up to date, but when I check for the Version number, I get an
"ERROR 96 UNSPECIFIED ERROR".
Does anyone know how to fix this problem short of completely reloading WIN XP?

Check for Hijackware

When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to
use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.

Some similarities here and you may think that it is worth trying.
