I'm having problems with text being displayed white on white, when I go to
Ebay, for example, and search for items, the number of items displayed is not
visible. If I select that line of text, the box is repainted with black text
on a white background and remains visible. is this the IE Peekaboo bug I've
heard so much about?

Hi,
Check these two areas:
Internet Options> General> Accessibility- usually, nothing should be
checked.

Control Panel> Accessibility> Display- "Use high contrast" should not be
checked.
