Hi,
IE keeps crashing and I am led to an MS page which tells me I need to
download the IE update for SP2. I download this, but during installation, it
says 'setup cannot copy file branch.inf', and the installation fails. Can
anyone tell my why this is happening? I have Win XP with SP 2.
Many thanks

Navigate to C:\ Windows\inf and remove the read-only tag on the branches.inf
file in there. You can do this by right clicking the file, choose
Properties, and clear the read-only attribute box. The "inf" folder is a
hidden folder, so unless you have configured Explorer to show hidden files
and folders, you will not see it when
browsing the file system. Another way to open the "inf" folder:

From Start/Run, type this exact text:
%windir%\inf
and then press OK.

Then try your installation again, using the branches.inf that the installer
tries to use.

Sorry, I am finding it hard to navigate this message board.
I lost this posting so sent it again just now. I'll try and remove the new
one!

Thanks for reply,Jon, but 'read only' already unchecked, so not the problem.
