Search Companion doesn't work

I have a user with the default settings for Search Companion. Last week, she
noticed that it all of a sudden stopped working. Whenever she types in
something to search and clicks on the Search button, IE sits there for a
minute, and then comes back with the following error message:
"Unable to connect
The Web site is currently unavailable or the connection to the Internet has
been lost. Make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again."
The Search Companion doesn't work either if I run IE as the Administrator.
For now, I have her using the Classic search, but she would like to use the
Search Companion.
Any ideas? I have tried re-installing the Search Companion by running
install on srchasst.inf.

Hi Laura :-)
Try the following and see if it helps:
Try clearing the Forms, close and restart IE. Also, try turning AutoComplete
off, reopen IE, and turning it back on.
also....
Go to Start>Run>Type in ...SFC(space)/SCANNOW...
Hit enter...follow the prompts.
also...see the information here:

My "Search Companion" window comes up empty and I can't search. How do I fix
it?

Using the "A word or phrase in the file" search criterion may not work

Hope this helps.

Hi Laura - In addition to Jan's suggestions:
Download and run:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality and reset your prefixes. You'll have to
manually re-select any Search Customizations you may have had, however.
