If I try to access the free games on Optimum online, or try to access the
internet from my family tree the internet explorer closes. It begins to load
the game or the page, then abruptly shuts down. I have a brand new (one week
old) HP Pavilion A1034N. I am running Windows XP. And I have no clue how
to fix this. Any help at all would be most appreciated. thank you all in
advance.

I take it the games you are referring to are from
http://www.optonline.net/Games ?
Most of those appear to be Java games. I take it you don't have Java
installed on your new system.
Try installing it from here and see if that solves your problem:
