I just installed Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (890923),
now when I try to open a file from my Extranet a new window opens (it will
not close on its own & it remains blank) the file will not open there, it
opens via the associated program, i.e. Word, Adobe, Photoshop etc.
This is the url in the new window that will not close or populate with
information:

Whereas b/4 the patch install, the window would open, launch the download,
then the window would close when download was completed.
Please can anyone offer any suggestions to resolve?

[techno127]

I have Windows XP. Its not blocking the download, it just handles
differently. Open a window then opens the file separately using the
appropriate program.

If you uninstall KB890923 (MS05-020) via Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP
Hotfix - KB890923), does the problem persist?

If you install KB883939 (MS05-025), which *replaces* KB890923, does the
problem persist?

Best to rely on Windows Update/Automatic Update for patches your machine
needs rather than picking & choosing ones you think it needs.
