Must type "http://" in address bar

All of a sudden, I need to type in the full address including protocol. I
used to be able to type "www.cnn.com", but now that does nothing. If I type
in "http://www.cnn.com" it works fine. How do I fix it?

That works, thx. I guess now I'll only have to do a lot of typing when
websites don't begin with "www" and end with ".com".

This registry patch may help:

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/RepairDefaultPrefix.reg
Repairs the corrupted or altered (spyware) HTTP prefixes

Download, right-click and select merge.

Reboot and test.

Use this registry fix:

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/RepairDefaultPrefix.reg

After downloading, right-click and merge.

Then, spend some time reading...

The registry fix didn't solve the problem. I can start with a blank address
bar and type in "www.cnn.com" and the little Explorer icon will show up in
the leftmost part of the bar, but nothing else happens. I think that was
happening before the registry fix. But I still have to type the protocol
prefix "http://" before Explorer actually goes there.

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Hi Ace - Download and run:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG to restore
your default Search functionality and reset your prefixes. You'll have to
manually re-select any Search Customizations you may have had, however.
