Microsoft File?

When I started my PC this morning there was a folder displayed named
"Microsoft" this contained another folder named "Validation Check File" and
this folder contained a file named "Genuine Check" (Genuine Windows
Validation Microsoft Corporation). I didn't run this file (an exe file) and
wondered if anyone knew anything about it, where it would have originated and
whether its a virus of some kind? Your comments would be appreciated.

It is a valid Microsoft file, and was placed there the last time you visited
windows update. Soon, you will be required to validate your copy of Windows
when you update it, and this is the file that will validate it. It does no
harm, and while not required at this time, just leave it there.
