About a month ago I began having a problem with doing the "find target" in
properties on right-clicking an icon. Instead of going to the directory,
the WinXP search window comes up. Any suggestions? TIA

RA,

Do you experience the following problem, in addition to the issue you
mentioned?

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder:

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
(Tip from David Candy)

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

No problems with folders. But the fix from David did the trick. Thank you.
