Tabbed browsing bar won't appear

I just installed tabbed browsing for IE6 but the bar won't appear. I have
gone through all the suggested steps by Microsoft and it still won't appear.
I find it frustrating that in order to submit feedback about it, I have to
do so through the tab bar itself. I can't do that since it won't appear.

The last thing to do, according to Microsoft if the tabbed bar doesn't
appear, is to check in the view menu and make sure MSN toolbar has a
checkmark by it. Well, I don't have MSN toolbar listed in the view menu and
I just installed it but it evidently did not install. This is on XP Pro
Sp1a.

Is this not available to SP1a users? If not, then why the heck doesn't
Microsoft state this on the troubleshooting page? I'm not going to install
SP2 ever but it would nice if Microsoft would tell me not to waste my time
downloading something that won't work on SP1a. I use Firefox, Mozilla and
Opera 95% of the time anyhow so it doesn't really matter if Microsoft is
shutting out us Sp1 users but I would appreciate simple courtesy in telling
me it won't work on SP1 if that is, in fact, why I can't get it to work.

I must be missing something here. I am under the impression that
tabbed browsing is not available in IE6 no matter what operating
system you are using.
Where did you get this installation?

I haven't uinstalled it yet myself, but AFAIK the tabbed bar is a feature if
the MSN toolbar. You need to install the MSN toolbar itself first.

Try to uninstall the tabbed browsing, then install MSN toolbar and try
again.

Kind regards

It was just made available today for IE6 and evidently, I now see, for all
versions of Windows. So, I was wrong about it perhaps requiring XP SP2.

Ahhh.. Well the fact that you need the MSN search bar first isn't made clear
on the download page for the tabbed browsing. However, that does seem
reasonable. I know this tab bar installed because Regprot asked me if I
wanted to accept the new registry key. But if I needed the MSN search bar
first then that explains my problem.
Thanks. I'll play with this in the morning...very late here in Hawaii.

Ah...
That is the MSN Search Toolbar.
I have no desire to install that.

Take a look at Avant. IE with tabbed browsing, ad-blocker, pop-up blocker,
flash blocker, and much more. It's highly configurable and just over 1MB in
size. It's also free! I've been using it for a few years and love it.

Actually that is not helpful advice. I just spent a lot of time trying to
get the MSN SEARCH bar to install after I installed the MSN toolbar. What I
learned is that I needed to ditch the MSN toolbar (which I didn't want
anyhow) and only install the search bar. The MSN toolbar proved difficult
to uninstall because it appeared to not be running when it actually was
which kept the uninstall from working. I was puzzled because I had shut IE
before trying to uninstall it yet it kept running with IE shut.

Tabbed browsing works great and I killed most of the junk that comes with
the Search bar. The tabbed browsing is not particularly sophisticated like
the Tabbed Browsing Extensions I have for Fx, but it works and now I can use
IE again. It is wonderful to not have all those separate IE windows open!

I also realize now that there is a specific NG for the search bar so sorry
that I posted here. Guess this wasn't the right NG but at the time I didn't
know there was an NG for the search bar.
