IE6 and Out Express do not recognise that I am online

Outlook Express and IE6 do not recognise that I am online even though they
initiated the connection.
If I send/receive with OEx or request a web page with IE a request to
connect/dial-up is initiated. I click OK and make the connection but they do
not then recognise that I am then connected - they think I am working offline.
Any ideas? Thanks

First thing to check, in IE, is to go to its File menu and make sure "Work
offline" is not checked.
