opening RTF files without message

I have installed office 2003 on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server.
When a Outlook user receives an Office document within an email as an
attachment or embedded into the email body, a prompt is given to Open, Save,
or Cancel - there is also a checkbox to "Always ask before opening this type
of file".
When a user starts an application, the application has to open a .rtf file.
Each time the program starts, the user got a message if he wants to open,
save the rtf file from a local source (E:\..\*.rtf).
The "Always ask before opening this type of file" checkbox is greyed out
(disabled).
Is there a way to enable this checkbox so a user can disable the Open, Save
, Cancel prompt? Or is there a way to disable this message anyway?
Thanks,
jacco

You may be better off asking in an Outlook group if it is an
Outlook-only problem (sorry, I have never used it) but try the reverse
of this standard response:
You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box
The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

I followed your instructions but it doesn't help. I think I'll have to edit
the register to add the rtf file as a secure file or something. but how. Do
you have any other suggestions?
Thanks.... Jacco

If you UNCHECKED the box and it didn't help, then I suggest you verify
if it is an Outlook problem and if so, post to an Outlook group.
Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by editing the register
(Registry?) to add rtf as a secure file. The terminology is unfamiliar
to me.

Hi,
This article may help:
318761- Open Button in Dialog Disabled When You Browse or Redirect to .rtf
or .csv Files:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318761
Basically you want to uncheck the "Confirm open after download" check box
for .DOC as well as .RTF
