IE6 uses wrong (old) version of WMP

I am using XP SP2 with WMP v10 installed, but whenever IE6 plays a movie it
uses WMP 6.4.09.1130, which has problems playing some wmv's. I can't find
anywhere to set what media player IE should be using, or even find where WMP
v6 is installed on my system. Does anyone has a solution?

System is completely up to date with Win Update, and is a pretty recent
install. This problem has happened as long as I can remember. I have tried
uninstalling WMP10 and reinstalling, didn't help.

Try toggling the default file type associations from within Windows
Mediaplayer itself. That could get things sorted.

I have a PC with the same prob.

XP-Pro, sp2, IE6, WMP10.

I have set WMP10 to be default for all files.
Opening a webpage with an embedded player and IE uses WMP version
6.4......(wont play streaming media)

The media the player is playing is streaming media and when I paste the URL
of the media directly into the address bar WMP10 opens and playes the media
fine.

I tried renaming mplayer.exe but windows just created a new mplayer.exe.

<pondering> Does this happen on all pages? Or just one?

To the best of my knowledge it happens on all pages when trying to play media
using an embedded player. The embedded player is always version 6.4.

I don't know what the problem is. Try one of the Media Player newsgroups.
