HomePage&Toolbar Guard
Hello all,
"HomePage&Toolbar Guard" appears on Add/Remove
Programs. What is it? Is it ok and safe to remove
it from there?
Thanks!

If you didn't install it, then I am dubious.
Can you supply the exact string?
(Just in case you have missed a space)
You can get it exactly from the Registry with Regedit.exe under the
key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Exporting the subkey to a text file and pasting it here may be
helpful.

Hi Allan,
I got the following.
---------------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
Toolbar 24]
"UninstallString"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system\\unppc.exe"
"DisplayName"="HomePage&Toolbar Guard"
---------------------------------------------------
It seems that the file unppc.exe is missing.
Thanks!

I couldn't find anything on "HomePage&Toolbar Guard" the other day but
I see the spelling is correct. It does not look good from this:

Your AV may have removed unppc.exe as that also looks very suspicious.
It looks like uninstalling the possible parasite may run a Trojan, so
you are better off without it.
