Here's My situation, I have 3 computers connected to a router. They all run
on XP and use Internet Explorer 6. On one of my computers, I keep getting
this message:

Work Offline

No connection to the Internet is currently available. To view internet
content that has been saved on your computer, click Work Offline.

Click Try Again to attempt to connect.

Note: when I click try again the internet does come on line.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi,

Please consider this a non-authorative reply in so far as
although I had this problem, and resolved it, your particular
situation may be different.

My problem stemmed from the fact that although I have a DSL
connection, I had configured IE with some dial-up profiles.
Removing the dial up profiles fixed the issue.

Seeing as you are connected to a router, you shouldn't need
your dial-up profiles. And, unless you are using a VPN, there
shouldn't be any VPN's.

If you are using a Virtual Private Network to communicate
securely, disregard the rest of my advice, or try the alternate
suggestion.

To remove dial-up profiles (if you are not using dial-up):

To remove the profiles:

Close all IE sessions.
Spawn a single IE session.
Click on |Tools| > |Internet Options|.
Click on the |Connection| Tab.
Select any dial-up profiles that may be present and remove them
all.
Click on Apply.

If you use automatic configuration scripts, or are running a
proxy server, then stop here, and see if it works. If you do not
use configuration scripts, and aren't running any proxies,
continue:

Click on |Lan Settings...|
Uncheck all boxes in the |LAN settings| box.
Click on OK.

This should serve to remedy the problem. If it doesn't, please
post back to this specific thread.

Best regards,

Altrus

This is a common symptom for users of PPPoE clients on XP.
