Graham,
I am definitely having problems as I have just recently purchased a CompaQ
Presario with 512 MB and 200 GB HD space. I work as a Private Investigator
and need to transfer video to disk and then have the ability to burn to disk.
I have a Panasonic PVDV 201 and this brand new computer will not recognize
the camera. Whenever I put the camera into VCR mode while attached to the
USB port (front and back) the software begins to load though it has already
been removed and reloaded. I do not believe consumers should have to spend
this much time trying to decipher what is wrong with their systems. The
camera should be plug and play especially with all of the new upgraded
software and extensive hardware i just purchased. I realize now that others
are having this problem as well and I should note that CompaQ stated that it
is not their problem because it is a third party issue and most probably an
issue with service pack 2. This is an obvious problem affecting many users
of Microsoft since we are forced to utilyze their operating systems. Why
have they not provided a bug fix for this and or a clear message that certain
cameras may not work with certain systems. I do not feel I should have to
purchase another camera that is SP2 compatible when my laptop which runs
Millenium does the job sufficiently. At this juncture I am ready to return
the computer to Costco due to the inability to speak with any of the Reps
from Microsoft or Panasonic. I guess that once you purchase their products
it is Caveat Emptor, obviously customer service or satisfaction is not a
prerequisite for return customers.
I would most certainly appreciate a quick fix to this problem and any and
all suggestions are welcome. Take care!
