Request Help Downloading Photos On CD to "My Pictures"

Good afternoon! I have a question re downloading photos from a CD.
I am running Windows XP SP2.

Some of our photos are in "My Pictures," while others were placed in a
special, created folder caused "Pictures." Several CD's were made of the
photos in the "Pictures" folder. Now, we want to get all our photos in the
"My Pictures" folder and do away with the extra folder.

When we run the CD to check the disc/prints, a "Windows Wizard" box (I
believe it is titled) comes up with four or five options. We run the
"Slideshow" option to check the photos but are not sure which other option we
are to use to download the photos on the CD to the "My Pictures" folder where
they will show up individually.

Your guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I always use Explorer to move files around. Images are, after all, only
files. You can put files in any folder you wish.

Before moving files from one folder
to another...you must be certain that
the file names are not the same in
each folder. If you see a dialog that
asks, Would you like to "Replace" the
existing file A with file B...choose
"Cancel" and change the file names
before moving the images. Otherwise
you will lose the "replaced" files.

Now to move the files.....

Open the folder you wish to move files from...

Go to...Edit / Select All...

In your left pane under "File and Folder Tasks""
Choose..."Move the selected items"...

On the "Move Items" screen...Browse to and
select the folder you wish to move the files to.

Left click the "Move" button.

Check to be sure the moved files are in the
correct folder as expected and then delete
the unwanted folder. Right Click / Delete.

Moving files can also be accomplished if
you right click the selected files and from the
menu...choose...Cut...

Now right click the folder you are moving the
files to and from the menu ...choose Paste.

You are correct...Slideshow is only for viewing.

For Copying the files to your hard drive...
Do you see an option to:
"Copy pictures to a folder on my computer"?

If you do...choose it / click...OK... and follow
the prompts in the Scanner and Camera Wizard.

Also, you could select "Open folder to view files"...
and use the instructions in my first answer. Only
this time...choose..."Copy the selected items"

Now...right click the folder of your choice and...
Right click / Paste.

John,
Thank you so much for this great explanation and for taking the time to
give me the lenghty response. I will give it a try today. Again, I very
much appreciate the help, and can see why you are a Microsoft MVP.

Since you did such a wonderful job with this request for help, and if
you are looking for another problem to solve, please go to the Internet
Explorer 6 General forum and solve my new problem with Internet Options
(Restrictions)!

Nice to hear the problem is solved.

Sorry, but I don't monitor the IE6 newsgroup.
I'm sure you'll find some knowledgeable folks there.

Thanks, John. I solved the IE6 problem myself. I just remembered I had
made a change in Spybot S&D yesterday and forgot to write it down. Went back
in and made the correction. Everything is fine now. Appreciate your
interest, though.
