No sound - MIDI

Hello,

I have 2issues:
1 - I have no sound when playing midi files. mp3, and wma files sound ok
using WMP.
2 - I have sound only with WMP, no sound comes out for the same file using
Nero or MusicMatch. Any idea why?
3 - I get an error copying my WMP playlist to CD after 50% is done. I get
the error "medium is invalid....". Now I want to use Nero instead but I have
no sound (see #2).

Thanks for your help

As to (1):
You may need to select a MIDI device in Control Panel | Sounds and Audio
Devices | Audio.
If the device is a software synthesizer, make sure that you have a "SW
Synth" slider in the Volume applet (Playback view), and that it is not
muted. Moreover, this slider tends to reset to zero. Note that Wave and
obviously the master slider (marked Volume Control) also influence this
process.

(No answer to (2) and (3).)

This may help, to make your WMP your default player first before using other
apps. Then once you get sound for all files you can switch.
Open WMP>Tools>Options>File Types tab>Check all blocks>Apply and OK.
If this works you can change to other options or other apps. If not, go here:

In Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio.
I read:
Sound Playback:
Default Device : C-Media Wave Device

No other device is in the list. No volume slider here.

FYI: Under Device manager->Sound, Video and Game Controllers I see 1 entry
for MIDI : MPU-401 Compatible MIDI device. Other devices also exists in that
list.

Hi,

Advice didn't help. However I noticed that I can heat a midi file play in
Quicktime but not WMP.

I learn from the QuickTime v6.4 manual that QT has its own software
synthesizer.

Refer to the other message I just sent.

MPU-401 points to the connection where an external MIDI device can be
connected.
If you select that, all MIDI messages will be sent "out of the window",
unless you have some synthesizer connected and switched on, and consequently
nothing would be heard.

At least one of the other names in that drop-down list would mention your
sound card. Try these.
(I'm not specific, as I can expect additional settings with some.)

As I say in the other message I just sent:
"I learn from the QuickTime v6.4 manual that QT has its own software
