Midi files & Media Player 10 workaround?

Now that I've got this oh so wonderful Windows Media Player 10, I can't get
sound from the midi files on the net. Most irksome as I need access for piano
studies. Is there any workaround known of for this or can you suggest a
better player program to use. Most of the music I require is readily
available in midi, and a small number in MP3. If Windows Media Player is not
up to it with plugins or some other fix-it, I'll dump it.

It works with me. You'll need to pinpoint the problem.

First, check if WMP correctly plays MIDI-files already in your computer.
If not, check your system: Control_Panel | Sounds_and_Audio_Devices | Audio
| MIDI_music_playback.
If that does not offer you the expected choice (and most likely other
MIDI-software does not function properly as well), check Control_Panel |
System | Hardware | Device_Manager for alerts.

If your system appears OK, yet refuses to play MIDI files from a browser,
you may look in the direction of your safety settings (browser, firewall).
But that is beyond my knowledge.

You *may* work around such a problem by downloading the file rather than
opening it. You might even prefer this way, as it allows you to store your
study items, and play them back using less-limited software (allowing you to
mute instruments, for example) or print sheet music.

WMP10 does not touch in any fashion MIDI playback on the system - MIDI
playback was likely already broken...
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#midi
, as well as Chris' suggestions, should help you figure this out.

See http://www.zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Now Playing: "May Mix" by "lowbudget" in WMP10.
