Peculiar voice quality

I recently downloaded and installed latest version
of Msn Messenger 7.......and everything still works
the same (!) except that audio quality is markedly
different, voice during videoconferencing sounds
'hollow' or 'childlike'. Was anything done to change
sound quality, and is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks, Jonathan for the prompt response.
However, I followed the ink.......to Windows
Messenger 5.1.......which I (as far as I am aware)
do not use. I work via MSN Messenger 1.0.0816
(previously .0813). Please advise further.

Hi Bill,

I think I've lost my mind, I totally replied to the wrong post. Sorry about that!

Anyway, there is a newer version of the audio library in MSN Messenger 7, but it should be
nearly identical. Do you happen to have QoS on? If so (or you're not sure), click Start,
then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and Internet
connections then click Network Connections. Right click your network/internet connection,
then click Properties. Uncheck the QoS Packet Scheduler, then reboot and try having an audio
conversation again.

I can understand replying to wrong post. You juggle
more things at once than a juggler in a 3-ring circus.

My QoS Packet Scheduler has been unchecked ever
since
I installed MSN Messenger 6 months ago, so that isn't
it. Well, this appeared for no reason, chances are
it will go away when it's ready.

By the way, my Videoconferencing still *always* starts
up in "Mute" and I have to manually uncheck it every
time. Your failure to comment on that idiosyncrasy of
Messenger 7 suggests that "that's the way it was
designed, and there is no way to set it up differently".

Thanks for trying.

Jonathan, in order to try to determine whether .0816 is
giving me poor quality audio when .0813 didn't, I
tried another hard drive with same OS but not updated
to .0816 ........ same hollow sound. So that means
something else is causing it. I'll fish in a different
pond for the solution......
