I have a creative CD5233E-N CD drive. Lately, I've been noticing that
it doesnt realize when I've changed disks. Example: I dug up an old
game that I hadnt played in awhile. I put in Disk1 to play, but the
game told me that I needed Disk2 inserted to play. I put in Disk2 and
it still said "please insert Disk2".

The computer thinks Disk1 is still in there. So much so that it still
displays the files, but if I double-click on a ReadMe, INF or someother
file thats readable in notpad, it comes up as gibberish. Telling the
computer who's boss (by rebooting) works. But I'd obviously rather not
have to do that every time I change disks. I have re-seated the power
and IDE cable on the drive.

Thoughts?

Do CDs autorun properly? If not, is Auto Insert Notification enabled (hang
on is that even present in XP? I'm a veteran 98SE user upgraded ages ago
but still sorta in '98 mode!)? Is your hardware faulty?
