upgrade from Win2K

I have been using Win2K for a few years, and recently "inherited" a faster
PC. I simply put the hard disk from the older PC into the new one, and Win2K
did an amazing job installing all the dirvers, and I ended up with a working
system. However, I am now finding little things that don't work anymore (for
example netmeeting). I'd like to upgrade to WinXP, but I am hesitant because
of all the applications and data I have on the PC.
Can I upgrade from Win2K to WinXP Pro without having to reinstall all my
applications again or losing any data?

Hi there
You were lucky that your PC booted after the change. Most people find that
they get a blue-screen on boot.
Anyway, you can do an in-place upgrade to XP Pro, and retain your data and
applications. This assumes you have a retail or upgrade CD. An OEM CD
would not allow you to do an in-place upgrade.
However, if your PC is currently experiencing problems, I wonder whether you
should expect an in-place upgrade to magically sort these things out. It
might, but it might not, so you must take a full backup before you upgrade
and be prepared to wipe your system should things not go well.
Hope this helps

Thanks.
At what point would I get the option to upgrade? I booted from a REtail XP
Pro CD and only saw Install XP, REpair XP, and Quit. I did not want to select
"install" because I did not want to lose my current setup, so:
1) How do I initiate the setup to update my current version, and
2) At what point in the process does the upgrade option show up?
