Hi all,

The updater from Microsoft said that I should install 14
new updates. I went to Microsofts' website and started
the update process. After rebooting the only thing the
computer does now is reboot when it hits the MUP.SYS
file. Will not boot into any mode. What do I do to fix
my computer again so it starts properly?

thanks,
charles.......

When you bring up the Windows XP Startup Menu (to select Safe Mode and
the various other startup options) is there an entry there to "disable
automatic restart on system failure" or words to that effect?

If there is then choose that option and see what the result is. It
may just be that you now get a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP message, in
which case the contents of the STOP message, including all of the
parameters, will be a direct clue as to the underlying cause of your
problems. Post the STOP message contents back here for further advice
and assistance.

Good luck

No such choice. Any choice from list gives me a reboot of the system.
One time it did get as far as scandisk but then rebooted. I did notice
that it was FAT32. I think what I might try is boot to a W98 floppy
get a command prompt and try to go to the c: drive and see if there is
anything weird. Whatever it is, it happens after the Mup.sys driver
loads. I searched the M$ tech net database and found nothing
relevant. Most of the hits were about Windows NT.
