Installing new pc's with XP Pro running our Purchasing software.

Attached to the compter on COM1 is a handheld unit for maintaining inventory
control. The Purchasing software uploads & downloads information to this
device.

The problem I am having is that the upload/download will only work if I am
logged in as Administrator. It will not work even if I give Administrator
rights to another user account.

What could be causing this this to happen?

If it is working only with the built in Administrator account and no other
Administrator account, it could be one of two things - either all the files
are owned by the Administrator account and not the Administrators group
(notice the s on Administrator), or the programmer hard-coded the
application to only work with an account named Administrator. The former is
easy to fix by adding the members of the "machine name/Administrators" group
to have full control of all the files, the latter will require either using
the account named Administrator or seeing if a patch/upgrade is available
for the software manufacturer to allow other accounts access.
