I have an AMD system that takes DDR 400 RAM. I have 2 sticks of 256 installed.
When the first RAM stick was installed alone, the first bootup screen that
shows would say "Memory clock is 400" - Now since I have installed the 2nd
stick
>along with the first stick, it now shows "Memory clock is 333". My question is... is that normal?
Since I've noticed this, I've installed each one by itself and each time
it shows 400, it's only when they're installed at the same time that it shows
up 333. Is this telling me that my speed has slowed down with both of them in
there together? My XP is noticeably running faster since I've installed the
2nd stick BUT, has my overall speed been slowed by the combination of these
2 sticks?? THANX N ADVANCE The Rookie/Wayne B.

MrCmosDriver,
Most motherboards like the cas & latency timing of each stick of ram to
be exactly the same. If you have a motherboard that supports 800mhz.
front side bus, even the memory slots you put them into are dedicated
to reach this kind of speed.
Google the specs for each stick of ram to see what the timing is.
It's possable that the motherboard will run with the slowest memory it
sees.
Best,

If you were to tell us your mobo we might be more specific in our answer.
Some mobo run at 400 with 1 stick of ram and at 333 with 2 sticks of ram.
on some mobo you have to enter the bios and change settings for 2 stick to
run at the same speed.
Read you mobo manual and see what it says about RAM placement and type
thereof.

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem

The board is a K8M800-8237 >>

put this system together about 2 months ago but can't find the manual right
now. THANX AGAIN, Wayne B.
