[Val Lee]

I'm having a problem connecting between Windows XP home and Win95. I can ping
each other but can't see each otherin Network. I try to upgrade the net on
Win95 using Windows XP CD, but it's for Win98 and above. Is there anyway to
solve this problem? thanks

Without any details of how you've set up the network, it's hard to say
what's wrong.

What are the computers' IP addresses, and how are they assigned?

Can the computers ping each other by IP address and by computer name?

Can Win95 see itself in Network Neighborhood? Can XP see itself in My
Network Places?

Is there a firewall program on either computer? If so, make sure that
it's configured to allow File and Printer Sharing on the network.

Make sure that File and Printer Sharing is enabled on Win95.

Try accessing the other computer by typing its name in the Start | Run
box in this format:

\\computer

The IP are assigned by DHCP, both computer can ping each other. There is no
firewall, I try to map network drive from Win95 to XP, it show path not found.
Win XP can see itself in Network Places, Win95 can see itself also in

Try accessing each computer from the other computer by typing its name
in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\computer

Does that work?

What path are you entering when you try to map a network drive? The
path should have this form:

\\computer\share

Make sure that share names on XP aren't longer than 12 characters. If
they are, Win95 won't be able to see them. Use only letters and
numbers in share names -- no blanks.

Are there any other relevant details that would help someone solve the
problem? We only know what you tell us.

The share folder is on Win95. The network drive path i try is what you have
provide. they is only two computer on this network which need to share files
and folder. thanks

Was the Windows 95 machine ever updated for Service Pack 1 and Winsock 2?
If not done, especially the Winsock 2 update, it will cause significant
problems. See
