Printer sharing OK but cannot get access to other PC

I am running XP Home on my desktop with a USB connected printer. I have a
laptop with XP Pro connected over a wireless network and have run the wizard
on both to set up file and printer sharing. I have turned off the firewalls
on both machines and can use the desktop printer from the laptop, but when
trying to access the shared folders on the desktop I get "access denied".
However I can access the shared folders on the laptop from the desktop. I
have seen reference to setting incoming connections permissions but cannot
find where to set this up. There is no tab in "Network Connection"

Any ideas?

Navs,

You can't setup connection permissions in "Network Connection", nor any network
related permissions in Sharing - Permissions. All permissions are granted to
local accounts.

Please make sure that you did, in fact setup permissions properly under Sharing
- Permissions, and under Security, and that all firewalls have been effectively
disabled.

If neither of the above apply, you probably have a browser conflict, which will
cause precisely the problem that you report. Diagnose this with browstat.

The laptop browstat shows the desktop as the master
The laptop shows "Browsing is active on domain", but also "Could not connect
to Registry error 53"

The desktop shows "Browsing is NOT active on domain"and "Master cannot be
determined from GetAdapterStatus. Using \\desktop"

Mike,

One of the computers has the IPX/SPX protocol. Please remove that, and rerun
all diagnostics.
