NIC powers down

Running ACPI S1 and AMD's CoolN'Quiet. I have Minimal Energy set in
Control Panel and have unchecked the option to power down the NIC
(Realtek RTL8139). All the same, every time I have been away and log on
again, I get the message that there is no Internet connection. I click
"Try again" and everything works OK. I have no idea what makes this
happen on this PC but not on the others in my LAN. Can it be NIC
drivers (latest from Realtek), BIOS, XP?

I don't want the NIC to turn off. Any ideas how I can stop this?
