Very slow to logon to DC from remote laptop

Scenerio:
Win XP Pro SP2 laptop
Win2003 DC
Watchguard MUVPN software on laptop
Laptop is part of the domain, user is logging onto the domain via the VPN
tunnel created prior to the logon attempt. Takes 3-5 minutes and seems to
lag at the applying computer/user settings. The laptops are controlled via
GPO on their OU but the laptop basically points to their logon script to map
a single network drive.

I can see that the tunnel is created prior to them trying to logon. I
entered a Wins address to the Nic, and can resolve the DC by name thru the
tunnel after doing so. I have tried a hosts file entry as well. I can also
ping the remote laptop by IP as they always have the same IP address given to
them from the VPN software (private address).

I also added the "ExpectedDialupDelay" DWord value to the reg with a timeout
of 30 sec, as per a TID from Watchguard.

I currently have 4 different laptops all taking a long time to logon. Ping
times range from 55-115 mbps back and forth so not too bad.

I plan a test to remove all GPO processing but need to have that in place.
Any ideas?

chris
