Networking XP and Win 2K

Hi, we have 2 PCs on a peer-to-peer network using a router. One PC has Win XP
the other is on WIn 2K. The XP can access files and folders on the 2K machine
with no problems, but it doesn't work the other way around. The 2K machine
recognises the XP machine - it shows in My Network Places as part of the same
workgroup, but when we try to log on using a valid user id and password is
says one or other is not recognised. The Windows firewall is off because we
have Symantec Internet Security (set up correctly to allow a range of IP
addresses). Any ideas what we have missed? We are completely new to XP and
still feeling our way around.

Judith,

Is this XP Home or Pro, and if Pro, is it running Simple File Sharing? Make
sure the right account is activated on XP Pro.

Make sure that you don't have a browser conflict - run browstat on both
computers.

Are you sure NIS (NPF) is correctly configured?

If no help above, go thru my troubleshooting guide.
