Client for Microsoft Networks

For some reason each time I try to install the Client for Microsoft Networks,
I receive an error stating "Could not add the requested component. The error
is: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid
for the account name specified."
I've tried virtually everything, but am unable to make any headway. Any
suggestions?

Go to Device Manager, un-install the network adapter, and re-install
it. Then, try Client for Microsoft Networks again.

I had tried to uninstall and reinstall the Network Adapter before, and I
tried again, as you suggested, but no luck.
The problem is that I had accidentally uninstalled the Client for Microsoft
Networks, and now I can no longer reinstall, because of the error I said
below.
When I try to install, it gives me the option of "Have Disk" is it possible
to go around this error, if I copy the necessary files to a disk, and then
try installing? AND if so, what files do I need to copy?
Thanks,
Hersh

You're welcome, Hersh.
Is this computer part of a workgroup or a domain?
Make sure that you're running on a user account that has Administrator
privileges.
Are there any relevant messages in Event Viewer? To run it, click
Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative
Tools | Event Viewer. For more information, see:

I had tried tracking it down via the Event Log, but I don't know enough about
the programming terminology for Windows.
I am the only user of this computer, and I have administrator privileges. I
even switched to an account named Administrator, and used my password. The
computer isn't connected to anything currently, but if it were it would be a
part of a workgroup.
I'm a little perplexed as to why I don't have privileges, unless that's a
protection against a virus gaining control of other system properties, via my
account.
Here's a copy of the Event Log:
The LsaStorePrivateData call failed with the following error:
%%3221225560
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
The user is listed as: N/A. and the Event ID is: 7005
Any ideas?
Thanks again,
Hersh

Thanks for finding that Event Log entry -- it might be a clue to the
problem.
That's just one entry out of many in the Event Log. Are there any
other error messages, especially ones from the Service Control
Manager? Look under System.
If your user account doesn't have a password, create a password, log
out, log back in using the password, and try everything again.

Okay,
The event that I put down from the EventLog, was from the System section. It
also was an event created by the Service Control Manager.
I just checked the other two sections, and under Applications I found this
error:
-------------------------
Failed to set the security attributes on the MS DTC service. Internal
Information : Pid = 2904, File:
d:\nt_qxp\com\com1x\dtc\dtc\dacdll\src\transcfgdlg.cpp, Line: 461,
ApplyAccountSettings failed, hr=0x80070534
..
Source: MSDTC Client
Category: MSDTC User Interface
Event ID: 4429
Words:
0000: 80070534
--------------------------------
BUT, this error didn't occur at the same time that the System error did. I
don't have any idea what the MS DTC service is, but by the looks of the error
it sems like it might be related. No
To answer your other question, my account does have a password.
Thanks again,
Hersh
