Can I transfer all the contents (programs, files, folders) from a laptop
running ME to a desktop with XP by directly connecting their LAN ports? What
steps do I take to do this?
Thank you, Kevin Sawatzky

Make sure it's a crossover cable for starters. Second there's a wizard to
transfer the settings but I'd not use it. The simple way is to tell the XP
system to use an IP of 192.168.0.1 and the ME to use 192.168.0.2 and make
sure they're both using the same workgroup (mshome) and it should be all set
after that. Just share the folders you want to share between them. To
manually stipulate the IP address open the network connection's properties,
highlight the TCP/IP section, and set the IP in there and then mouse down
and it will insert the subnet mask for you automatically.

You can transfer your settings as well as all your data
files/folders from your laptop to your desktop using the
procedure that Galen outlined. The only thing I'd add is that
you can't "transfer" programs from one machine to the other.
You would have to install each program on the desktop. Simply
moving the Program Files folder ain't gonna work
