Gigabit network and slow copy and TCP/IP transfers

Hi there,

I have read a few of the comments on gigabit networking and performance
issues, and from my own experience I am left to believe that there are some
registry entries that I can tweak to speed up a regular copy over an intranet
(pure gigabit) where nothing else is running... I mean, if LINUX can do it....

Here is what I've tested and believe is relevant:
I have used "iperf" to test the TCP/IP connection and was in addition
monitoring the speed with the TaskManager.

I am using W-XP SP2 and W2003 SP1
and Fedora 3 to W2003 SP1

I get about 170 Mbsp when I use iperf with no additional parameter:
(iperf -c 100.1.1.10), I get about 450 Mbps if I use a window size of 100MB
(iperf -c 100.1.1.10 -w 100M)

When I do a simple iperf off my LINUX system (iperf -c 100.1.1.10) I get
about 600Mbps.

Now that tells me that there are some settings under XP which can be
optimized. I have found registry entries like Tcp1323Opts, TcpWindowSize,
ForwardBufferMemory, and TCPAckFrequency that are supposed to help but didn't
so far.

In the end I am looking for a complete list of registry entries that can be
set for TCP/IP and explorer or other programs that can copy files.
Or specifically how to increase memory and buffer sizes for the copy commands.

I would appreciate very much any comments, suggestions and links to useful
sites and tools.

Thanks

Bernd
