Why is Archive bit set when sharing directories

I'm using WinXp home, sp2. To back up the disks, I share the root directory
only during backup. I understand the danger.
I find that the act of sharing from Explorer is setting all the archive
bits on all files on the drive. I believe this is a bug, as I now get full
backups every time, not incremental backups. I know the CACLS command
will set the archive bit when an ACL is altered; this is fine.
I find it incorrect that Sharing a drive sets the archive bit.

What do others think?
