I have 2 XP Home Edition PC's running on a LAN at home. I have files shared
on each that occasionally need to be accessed by the other. I have noticed
that Windows creates network shortcuts in My Network Places. Can this be
turned off in XP Home Edition?

Click Tools | Folder Options | View, and un-check "Automatically
search for network folders and printers". You can right-click and
delete any undesired shortcuts, and it won't create any new ones.
