Hi all,
I have just setup a new computer at home (in Australia) with ADSL broadband,
and I am able to ping web sites and use a web browser to surf the internet. I
am using a DHCP service on my ADSL modem to setup my network connection.
My problem is that I cannot download any files from the internet using the
embedded download manager (either inside IE or Firefox). When I first set up
the connection I disabled the windows firewall and I was able to download and
install Firefox, but then after reactivating the firewall (with exceptions
for Firefox) the same problem resurfaced.
I have disabled the firewall again but with no effect. The internet browsing
remain unaffected. It seems that my download requests are being blocked.
I am running Win XP Pro SP2 with IE 6 and Firefox 1.0.4
The file I test for downloading is
http://mozilla.cs.utah.edu/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0.4/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%201.0.4.exe
(straight off the mozilla homepage)
I have setup Win XP Pro with ADSL many time before but haven't seen this
problem before. I haven't looked at the ADSL settings closely yet, but my
last computer was working fine with this modem for about 4 months. (And I
cannot remember the password to login to the modem!)
Thankyou,
Leif
