I want to hook my windows 98 host to a windows xp guest using ethernet
cables. However, I am using the ethernet connection on my xp for internet
access, and the ethernet connection on the 98 is connected to the router for
internet access as well. how do I connect these two machines together? Any
ideas? Obviously, I am new at this. thanks for any help.

If your two computers are already networked, and they're connected to the same
router, you've done half the work already - you have a working network. So take
a deep breath, relax, and do the other half.

# Permissions.

Just to clarify, you have leads with clear plastic plugs (called RJ45)
on each end? Both PC connect to the *same* router?

Sounds daft, but it isn't 100% clear in your posting.

Yes, they are clear plastic--larger than phone jacks, and each computer is
connected to the same router. I have tons of music and pics on the older one
and want to transffer them to the xp machine. That is why I need to network
them. Thanks for any info you can give me.
